As part of its Economic Response to COVID-19, the Australian Government in partnership with the states and territories, is providing free or low-fee training courses across the nation through its JobTrainer Fund. The Australian Government has committed to supporting Australians to retrain and upskill into sectors with job opportunities as the economy recovers from COVID-19 through free, or low cost, training places in areas of identified skills needs . Job seekers and young people, including school leavers, can now take advantage of subsidised training to learn skills for jobs in demand such as health, aged and disability care, IT and trades for job seekers and young people, including school leavers..

JobTrainer funding is available for accredited diplomas, certificates or short courses, based on a list agreed between the National Skills Commission and the state and territory governments. State and territory governments are responsible for determining which qualifications and short courses to prioritise from the agreed list, with focus on training in areas of anticipated employment growth.

ARC Training is an approved provider of training programs under the different JobTrainer programs in NSW, SA, QLD, and ACT.

Skills Assure is making it easier for prospective students to recognise providers that offer training subsidised by the Queensland Government.

The JobTrainer Fund (JobTrainer) is a jointly funded initiative of the Australian and state and territory governments to support an increase in low or no fee training places for job seekers, school leavers and young people in areas of identified skills need and/or employment growth, to support them into employment as Australia emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic. The JobTrainer Fund will operate as a component of Queensland’s existing vocational education and training (VET) investment programs and will provide access to additional training opportunities that complement the training already available for the target student cohort.

ARC Training is an approved Skills Assure Supplier and JobTrainer Fund Supplier under the QLD vocational education and training (VET) Investment Plan. Currently, ARC Training is approved to offer CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support under the QLD JobTrainer Fund.

The JobTrainer Co-Contribution Fee for students is $0.

Eligibility requirements:

To be eligible to enrol in a training place funded under the JobTrainer Fund, prospective students must

• permanently reside in Queensland; and
• be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary resident with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen; and
• have finished school or no longer be at school (including home schooled); and
• not already be enrolled in training (includes VET and higher education courses); and
• not have previously completed a qualification funded under the JobTrainer Fund; and
  either be a job seeker or a school leaver or young person.

Additional eligibility:

In addition to the above eligibility requirements, specific restrictions and/or exemptions may apply to participate in certain subsidised qualifications or short courses, which will be based on industry advice or requirements under the relevant national training package and will be detailed in the JobTrainer Priority Course List.

The JobTrainer program is, jointly funded by the Commonwealth and ACT governments, and is designed to complement other training available through existing ACT Government schemes such as Skilled Capital. The JobTrainer program intends to support job seekers and young people (17 to 24 years) in Canberra to access training and upskilling in areas of predicted employment growth through free vocational education and training. The key training and employment sectors being predicted to demonstrate increasing demand and growth in Canberra are; community services, healthcare, renewable engery and sustainability, digital and cyber security, and construction. The JobTrainer Fund is one of the ways the ACT Government is supporting jobs and the economy during COVID-19.

Eligibility

JobTrainer aims to provide free training opportunities to young people and job seekers in the ACT.

As a minimum, students must be:

• an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand passport holder resident for more than 6 months, or
• an eligible visa holder, and
• living or working in the ACT, and
• a person aged 17 to 24 years of age, regardless of employment status, who is not enrolled in or attending a school or college, or another program leading to the completion of year 12, or
• a job seeker who is out of work, and/or in receipt of income support payments.
