Overview

The CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support qualification reflects the role of individuals in a range of community settings and peoples’ homes, who provide support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work according to and may contribute to an individualised plan, and work without direct supervision. They may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.

ARC Entry Requirements

ARC Training’s entry requirements differ depending on what type of student you are:

  • General Public – Any member of the public that meets the General ARC Training entry requirements.
  • Existing Workers – Individuals who are currently employed in the industry.

General Public

To be eligible for this course as a General Public student entrant, you must be:

  • Must be old enough to acquire:
    • National Police Check;
    • NDIS Worker Screening Check; and
    • Blue Card/Yellow Card (QLD Students only); or
    • Working with Children Check in NSW or equivalent as per state requirement (only if required by the workplace)
  • Have completed Year 10 or equivalent; or
    • currently working; or
    • (For QLD students only) Have work experience in a care related role in the Community and Health sector and have completed a Certificate III level in any relevant CHC qualification (if you are an existing worker, your specific requirements, and what you need to provide will be discussed with you by our consultants);
  • Complete a Learning, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment;
  • Provide a USI;
  • Be reasonably fit and able to support and assist clients with their physical requirements (lifting/bending may be required);
  • Be able to attend work placement and provide the below:
    • National Police Check;
    • NDIS Worker Screening Check;
    • Vaccination Card;
    • COVID-19 Vaccination (including booster); and
    • Blue Card/Yellow Card (QLD Students only); or
    • Working with Children Check in NSW or equivalent as per state requirement (only if required by the workplace) – see more
  • Have basic or reasonable computing skills.
  • Have access to black work trousers, enclosed black leather, or rubber shoes;
  • Have access to a computer/laptop/tablet/smartphone device with up to date software and a stable internet connection.

Existing Workers

To be eligible for this course as an Existing Worker student entrant, you must be:

  • Must be an Existing Worker;
  • Must be old enough to acquire:
    • National Police Check;
    • NDIS Worker Screening Check; and
    • Blue Card/Yellow Card (QLD Students only); or
    • Working with Children Check in NSW or equivalent as per state requirement (only if required by the workplace) – see more
  • Completion of:
    • CHC33021 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability); or
    • CHC33015 Certificate III in Individual Support (Disability); or
    • CHC30408 Certificate III in Disability PLUS the CHCSS00125 Entry to Certificate IV in Disability Support Skill Set.
  • Complete a Learning, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment;
  • Provide a USI;
  • Be reasonably fit and able to support and assist clients with their physical requirements (lifting/bending may be required);
  • Be able to attend work placement and provide the below:
    • National Police Check;
    • NDIS Worker Screening Check;

  • Disability support worker
  • Community care worker

Duration and Mode of Delivery

This course can be delivered via a Digital Classroom or flexible program of classroom training and self-paced learning activities. Students have up to 12 months to complete the course (General Public); or approximately 33 weeks training program and self-directed learning (Existing Workers).

You will commit to 10 hours per week of self -directed learning, which can include reading the learner guide and conducting research. We also  recommend you commit 5 hours per unit of competency for assessment preparation and completion.

Please be advised that some assessments may be conducted in a simulated environment. If you are not an existing worker in the industry, the current simulation locations are Parramatta (NSW), and Wollongong (NSW).

Training and Assessment Activities

The CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support qualification assessment methods may include but are not limited to:

  • Short answers, projects, reports, demo / role-play, portfolio.
  • Work placement assessment.

In addition to the assessment methods above, students are required to commit to participating in self-directed learning throughout the duration of their studies.

There are ten (10) units of competency to complete, comprising of seven (7) core units and three (3) elective units of competency. Please see below for our standard CHC43121 Certificate IV in Disability Support.
