Working in retail is often thought of as just a job for teenagers, or what you do while you’re studying something else. But working in retail can be a career in itself – one that is purposeful, fulfilling, financially viable and long-lasting.  

We love our retail course because it provides so many great opportunities and gives people a start to a career that they’ve always wanted. Here’s why:  

1. Hands-on experience  

We provide real-life experience for you as you study – it’s not all listening to lectures and answering multiple-choice questions (although there’s a bit of that too). We love that our course provides: 

• opportunities for role-playing difficult customer scenarios
• working as a team with your colleagues and  
• creating beautiful merchandise displays.  

2. Increasing digital literacy 

In other words, we help you understand computers and the digital world better. So much of a retail environment is now digital, from the point of sales system, to the ordering process, to some products. You won’t always practise with the actual systems you’ll use in your new job, but we’ll give you the confidence to tackle any program or system that comes your way.  

3. Up your selling skills 

Learning how to sell your products well is a key ingredient to a successful career in retail. Two of our subjects (SIRXSLS001 Sell to the retail customer and SIRXPDK001 Advise on products and services) deal with just this. Confidence is key and our trainers will help you know how to sell with integrity, and sell well.
